President's Corner:
by Bob Schritter
Greetings Fellow Flyers!
Our Wounded Warrior Project flying demonstration at the Mullet festival site was an outstanding success in many ways. The flyers were outstanding, as was the club work force that set up and took down our tents, flags, tables, ice chests and other support items for the event. I am out of Florida for a few weeks and do not have a complete list of those club members who’s hard work made the event go very well. I will mention just a few who worked long and hard to organize the effort, and then recognize all the club members who supported the actions that occurred on the 16th, 17th and 18th of July.
Jeff Clack, Pam Cortner, Frank Perkins, Warren Ferris, Craig Deyerle, Alan & Liz Bradshaw deserve special thanks for their efforts supporting our club sponsored event. Many others worked hard during the event and I will officially recognize their efforts in the next club newsletter.
Our advertising efforts were outstanding with much more exposure to the general public; however, the crowds, raffle sales and event day donations were down from last year, prime reasons for this appear to be the economy,. Hot weather and of course*** the oil spill. Regardless, our efforts and donations supported a very worthy cause and our members and others were able to demonstrate their flying skills to the general public.
A full five hours of flying produced only two incidents; one aircraft landed in a tree due to engine failure, a glider, (mine) in a tree due to ???? No major damage occurred to either aircraft. Again, the flying lawnmower was a real crowd pleaser, as was the candy drop; again, I thank all of our club members who supported this worthy cause.
In closing, I must make another reminder to fly safely and smart. In addition, treat our flying site with respect. Do not conduct or allow others to engage in activities that could jeopardize the continued use of our excellent flying facilities. Hope to see you at the August club meeting.
Notice: Always check the Frequency Board before turning on your radio at the flying site.
